What happens to my bank account?

Normally when you are declared bankrupt, any bank accounts that you have will be closed. The account you are currently using will normally be frozen a few days after you have declared bankruptcy. You therefore need to plan to open a new account.

You will have to open a new account with no credit facilities known as a card cash account. Two banks that are normally willing to open accounts for bankrupt people are Co-Op and Barclays. You may also be offered a debit card facility by these banks.

You can open you new account just before or just after you declare yourself bankrupt.
